WCSU came to be because our founder wanted to create a community that she did not have access to in her 20's and early 30's but knew needed to exist. Our founder, Kendall Kennedy- Ochoa, identifying as a minority female, single parent turned married-single parent (yes that is a thing), designated responsible daughter/sister/sibling, care giver for an aging parent with dementia, go to person for others, and full time corporate employee felt alone and lost. She did not have an outlet, network, and place to turn to for support or guidance. Kendall felt her true self wasn't good enough, and she didn't feel understood, valued, or seen.
Over the years she built a network, created healthy connections with like minded people, found mentors, started seeing a therapist, put herself first, and started practicing self care in her daily life. What a difference intentionality, accountability, and grace make. As a purpose driven person who understands she is on this earth to make a difference in the lives of others and help people evolve into the best version of themselves. She knew creating a space for women would be her life's work.
Kendall dreamed of providing spaces, opportunities, events, and information that supported women and enriched their lives. Her vision includes being able to invite women to welcoming events where they could show up and find peace, have a good time, learn some new practices to implement in their daily lives, laugh from the belly, feel safe and vulnerable enough to cry, high five and hug, smile for real, forget about all the responsibility and challenges for a while, relax with like minded individuals, not want it to end, and look forward to the next event.
